Geddes City Council Meeting
Monday, March 10, 2025
The monthly meeting of the Geddes City Council was held at the City Finance Office in Geddes, SD. The
meeting was called to order by Mayor, Mike Krietlow, at 7:30 p.m. with the following council members
present: Carol Oberbroekling, Monica Vander Pol, Andy Kok, Sue Schulte, Amy Rolland and Sandy Gant.
Also present were Whitney Chambers, Tim Whalen, City Attorney, and Donna Paulson, Finance Officer.
Established changes to the agenda were petitions and lot sale appraisal.
Public input. Whitney Chambers met before the council with a dog complaint. Tim Whalen advised her to
fill out a complaint form and provide Donna with the pictures and videos.
Monica Vander Pol made a motion to approve the February, 2025 minutes, along with a correction that states
that Lot 1, N3’ of Lot 2, Block 10 in the Town of Geddes will be sold to Jay and Shondra Johnson for the
appraised value of $499.00. Andy Kok seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Sandy Gant made a motion to approve the February, 2025 public hearing minutes. Amy Rolland seconded
the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
February, 2025 financial reports were presented. A motion was made by Sue Schulte and seconded by Andy
Kok to approve these reports. Motion carried unanimously.
March, 2025 disbursements were presented. Carol Oberbroekling made a motion to approve the March,
2025 disbursements and Sue Schulte seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. Bills as followed

Old Business:
Josh Nelson, Brosz Engineering, sent an email advising that the chip seal project’s bid opening is set to be on
March 27, 2025. Award recommendations will be sent for approval at the April, 2025 city council meeting.
New Business:
Donna informed that council that she will be picking up the new assessment book in Lake Andes, SD on
March 14, 2025. The council will meet on March 17, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. to review and correct the assessments.
The annual District 4 meeting will be held on March 24, 2025 in Burke, SD. Sue, Carol, Amy, Andy and
Donna will be attending.
Amy and Carol were asked if the Platte Geddes second grade class will be attending the April, 2025 city
council meeting. The April, 2025 city council meeting will be held on April 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Meeting will
tentatively be held at the American Legion.
The Development Corporation has set up a $2500.00 home grant program. Application form provided. The
city is unable to match the grant. The grant application will be put on the Geddes website for a fee. Sandy
informed that the fee would be paid for by the Development Corporation. The application form can be
downloaded and printed from the website.
Donna received a phone call from Ron Gillen regarding the surplus water meters. Ron did not know what
the 119 meters would be worth, but thought that they should be worth at least half of the amount that was paid
for them. Donna will contact the City of Corsica to see if they are still interested in the meters.
Sandy inquired if there is anyone interest in the maintenance job. No one has stated that they are. There
needs to be some painting done and clean up work.
A new mat has been put down on the tennis court. Discussion was held on getting the lines painted for a
pickle ball court. Donna informed them that she had talked with Dave Kriz, who stated that they could take of
that. Also possible, would be some dads from the Platte Geddes second graders. Amy and Carol will take to
Sandy DuFrain about that possibility.
Discussion was held on utilizing our code enforcement officer.
Inquiry of an audit was expressed. The state will be doing an audit this summer.
There are several street signs and speed limit signs that are unreadable. In 2026, the state will be replacing
the street signs. A new 15 mph speed limit sign will be put up.
No word has been received yet regarding the generator grant.
The council was informed that the flag pole in front of the city office is turning black at the top and the flag
is turning gray. Will have someone look at it.
The council was informed that Travis Gant filed a petition for city council in Ward 1, Monica Vander Pol
filed in Ward II and Sue Schulte filed in Ward III. No election will be held.
Andy Kok made a motion to go into executive session at 8:29 p.m. to discuss potential litigation. Amy
Rolland seconded the motion. Declared out of executive session at 8:49 p.m.
No building permits received.
Sue Schulte made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:51 p.m. Monica Vander Pol seconded the motion.
Motion carried unanimously.
